About Bulgaria - Economy

Flag
Located in South Eastern Europe, Bulgaria is ideally positioned between the world’s major trading blocks of the EU and Asia. Bordered by Romania, Serbia, Macedonia, Greece, Turkey and the Black Sea, Bulgaria is vibrant and high growth economy that is currently enjoying one of the most productive and successful periods of its entire history.

Bulgaria has, through successive governments, achieved many of the reforms committed to in the mid nineteen nineties. The economy is now stable and has grown at a rate in excess of 6% per annum over the last five years. This growth is expected to continue at a steady pace over the coming years as the Bulgarian economy achieves similar success to that seen by Poland and the Czech Republic in recent years. Local and foreign analysts forecast 6.4 - 6.5 pct economic growth in 2008.

The Bulgarian National Bank has reported a record level of EUR 6,109 B foreign direct investments in 2007. The State Investment Agency anticipates foreign direct investment growth of 10 per cent in 2008. About 60 per cent of 2008 FDI is expected to be directed towards residential, commercial or vocational real estate.

The main factors determining Bulgaria’s economic growth are the accumulated capital in the economy, a result of the investment activity in the country, as well as the fresh input of EU structural funds. A full member of the European Union since January 1st, 2007, Bulgaria is receiving considerable economic and structural funding from Brussels.
